In Early Childhood, we often look for the perfect hire or the perfect boss.
But perfection isn’t real. What is real are people learning each other’s rhythm. Employers need alignment, not flawlessness. Employees need clarity, not pressure. When both sides communicate honestly, working together becomes possible.
In Early Childhood settings, workload isn’t always the issue.
Misalignment is. When a staff member’s pace, values, and communication style differ from the Centre’s operational rhythm, the “fit” becomes the real challenge. Recognising this early helps both Operators and Educators make informed, sustainable decisions.
Why are the first 3 months of employment tough for both Employee and Employer?
The first three months are tough because it is when everything is new at once — expectations, routines, culture, and relationships. It is a steep adjustment period where people are still finding their footing while learning how the team really works. With so much to absorb so quickly, the first 90 days often feel like the hardest stretch of any new role.
In Early Childhood, the days move quickly — routines, responsibilities, and the quiet work that keeps everything running. Sometimes we only realise how fast time has passed when we finally pause.
